89 jobs that deserved to go....

...were reported on Morning Joe this morning. The NY firm that had been featured in national news reports earlier this fall, with photos from its Halloween party, showing glib young Yuppies dressed as and ridiculing homeless people, is folding. All of its employees are now jobless. No details were given, but I would like to think that the company fell apart from people being afraid of associatng with this stench. Ths bunch is no longer part of the "one percent,", they can now figure out how to make it as one of the 9- ish percent of the reported unemployed. (If you talk to anyone in the know, that is more like somewhere between fifteen and twenty percent, in terms of real unemployment, so many being moved off of those benefits and onto the rolls of social services now.) So, maybe there is some form of cosmic justice, and total disregard for the suffering of.the many for the the bemefit of the few is not as funny as some once thought it was. Now, if we could just raise the sensitivity level of those pepper- spraying campus police. Maybe protesting is an inconvenience to the college administration, especially when the protest is over tuition rate hikes, but my blood boiled when I saw that abuse of Americans exercising their freedom to assemble and their freedom of speech.

Re: 89 jobs that deserved to go....

The spraying of pepper spray looks unbelievable but I don't think we know the entire story. The guy definitely went over board with the spray. They are allowed to protest. But they are destroying property, causing businesses to close and the huge costs of this to cities already strapped for operating money is wrong. These are not peaceful protests. I have still not heard of an agenda. They are just being loud and costly. They are preparing to spend the winter protesting and costing the tax payer millions. How can the police departments do their work when they are out there with the protestors?

It has been compared to the civil rights marches but I do not recall violence and the destruction of property. Do not get me wrong, I strongly support the right of free speech. This looks like young adults just having a good time in a huge group of people.

The people sprayed point blank with military grade pepper spray this weekend, were students protesting tuition rate increases.

There has been no credible source with expertise in crowd control who could  offer valid rationale for its use in that circumstance.  Heads should roll for that one!

Re: 89 jobs that deserved to go....

It 's understandable...I think a lot of protests now are being lumped under the OWS umbrella.  As I said, I haven't been paying total attention to the news lately, given the family changes going on.

Having been a colleg student, and having reared three of them, it really bothered me to think that young people would be subjected to physical torture in America, just because they protested the costs of their ongoing education.  When I saw those cops, with their riot gear on, and in no danger of being attacked or overrrun, I lost it.

I am disappointed in our country in so many ways right now.  There are a lot of our failures, many of which we all saw coming, and did nothing to prevent.  If our young people point them out, we attack them in a manner so painful, it is not anything we would do to a dumb animal.
