A Cure for headaches?

A gal I know , said she can get rid of someones headache, just by holding onto their ring finger for a few minutes.   I tried it last night on a older gal that was riding along to Beginning Experience class.  And after a couple of minutes, she said she could feel it leaving .   She said on the way home, that it hadn't  come back all evening.  This was a headache she had had all day...

Interesting.

Re: A Cure for headaches?

Sounds like an accressure technique to me. I use different spots, depending upon the cause of the headache.

For sinus ones, I usually use the inside corner of each eyebrow. I hadn't heard about the ring finger...but it doesn't surprise me.
I do use wrist points to squelch motiont sickness...it really works.

Also, keep in ,ind the placebos effect...almost anything helps about 75% od the time, if you just believe it will. Lots of meds are no,ore effective than the placebo effect of a sugar pill would be...but billions are spent on them. Especially true of some for depression and such.

Re: A Cure for headaches?

A friend who had trouble with headaches for years said quitting smoking and drinking lots of water does more to prevent headaches than any medicine.  He said a Doc told him he could prescribe medicine for his headaches, but if he'd do these two things he would not have them.  Seems to have worked for him.

Re: A Cure for headaches?

You are really right about dehydration, mike. When I am one the road, if my water supply in the console runs put, I can start to feel a dull, headachy sensation in an hour or so without to drink.

I imagine the smoking piece has to do with oxygenation. The brain is very sensitive to drops in available 02.

The idea of putting pressure on another body part may also, besides potential acupressure and placebo effects, have some basis in the " gateway" theory of pain management. This essentially favored in the body's neurological bottlenecks...one sensation can effectively block another, since only so many signals can pass and be processed at once.

This is why robbing a topical gel on an aching joint seems to " relieve" arthritis pain...your brain deals with the skin's sensations of the cooling or warming chemicals in the Ben- Gay or whatever...it doesn't really reach into the joint and improve the underlying condition. pinching a finger might just block the head discomfort.

Re: A Cure for headaches?

I Googled form the phrase " acupressure points for motion sickness", and got tons of hits. Interestingly enough, this one deals with morning sickness ( need to share this with pregnant daughter) and anxiety.
There was also a lot of good diagramming on some sites, and other info. Worth a few minutes of surfing...
