Change in Plans

Got a phone call this morning from the guy who was contracted to powerwash the finishing bldg.   He was to be here Tuesday.   This weekend he was insulating his attic and fell through the ceiling.  He is hurt.  I believe him... No way you powerwash with a very sore body and back.    But,,, he won't be able to get the building powerwashed this turn  at all.

So..  Tom spent the morning  rewiring  the outlet for the powerwasher.   It was put in about 10 years ago and it got  fried with the soakers.     Went to look to see if there was enough washer hose to reach the ends of the building.   Then I spent the whole day trying to get it soaked down.

Sunday I have family Christmas dinner here.   My plan was to soak today  and then while he powerwashed on Tuesday and Wed  I'd get the houses ready.   Nope... I'll be powerwashing.   Hope the powerwasher and my arms hold out.     Got my tennis elbow bands ready to go.        I figure it will take about 45 minutes per pen.... and I've got 16 pens to do.   About 4 still need about some serious  soaking.     So I won't be posting  alot rest of the week.

Well at least my   housecleaner comes Friday.   I may have to have her clean in both houses.

Advil and  Advil PM  will be my friends.

Re: Change in Plans

Well, THAT was a bad surprise! Twelve hours is about the washing that's done here every week, on average.  Main job for the hired man.

We did it ourselves for about 12 years, so I feel your pain.  Music always helped me get through, and  set of dry clothing to put on, before I left the heated building.

Take your meds before the pain kicks in.  I would rather take a does of arthritis medicine I don't need than miss one I do.

Re: Change in Plans

That was really bad news! I do hope your cleaning person can do both houses for you. News like that would really ruin my plans and schedule.

Re: Change in Plans

Well,  we survived.  We worked really hard to get it done by this evening.   Drained it,  got the powerwasher moved back to the nursery.  We are suppose to get cold and snow by tomorrow AM.   It is not  officially done.   Probably needs another hour or 2 to finish up details.   Considering that this was a 36 year old building  that we Never intended to powerwash  we did pretty good.  Just took forever to get the layers off the concrete soaked through.   Still need to wash the ceiling and then rinse again.   Took 4 of us.   I have a really great son.   The seed corn business is slow right now so he powerwashed for 4 hours.   Makes him remember why he decided to sell seed rather than raise hogs.

I have to admit I'm a little sore tonight.   Not use to using high pressure for so long.   Don't have to work as hard cleaning the plastic floors in the nursery.    Was glad the powerwasher made it too.   Took an inventory Monday  and found I had a brand new turbo tip I had never used.    Don't like to use it in the nursery.   And an extra 50ft.  of pressure hose too.   I certainly hope the powerwasher guy will be able to do the finishing buildings from now on.

Now time to clean house.

Re: Change in Plans

Much as they are hard on the hands, I sometimes have wished I could clean our house with the pressure washer, haven't you?

Re: Change in Plans

So sorry to hear that you had to power-wash. the finishing building. It certainly is not the easiest work in the pig business. Finding the extra hose and new tip may have been a good surprise. Seems like farmers like to "collect" parts that don't get used. Did you use any detergent or hot water? Have heard some brands work well, but don't know from experience. Have used hot water in the past and that has cleaned farrowing crates and floors pretty well. Expensive though so we've settled with the cold water power washer when the hot water one had run its course of repairs.
