Re: Chore Lists?

Another male/female thing:  Men "make observations", women "drop hints".

We just made plans for the next two nights' suppers, and I need three grocery items, one which I forgot yesterday (even thougth it was on my list!?!), two of them for tomorrow night.  List.

I have a list of errands to do later today, after I do the bookwork and housework (which is mostly done already, without a list to assist), and I also have to stain and poly what son needs later in the week (which does require a list, to lay out steps and progressions, due to drying times, and thus leadtimes).

My calendar also acts as a list...appointments and meetings.  When anyone asks if I can do something, I tell them I  have to look at it first, before I commit. Used to carry that stuff in my head too, but don't trust that to memory anymore.

I still have those' Oh, no, I forgot!" moments, but not as many as when I tried to wing it without writing things down.  If something is REALLY important, I scribble it on the back of my left hand... a habit  I started in high school.

Re: Chore Lists?

You do that too! I was taught to do that on an intership on another hog farm (back in the day). Harder to lose the info than writing it on paper. My arms and hands were covered by ink by the end of some days. Didn't look good, but the pigs didn't care. Still write some, but not nearly to that extent.

I make a "crib sheet" of the grocery store sale prices and usually only buy that. What we need that isn't, is written below if room allows. Our stockpile has kept us from buying a lot at retail.

Usually have to be in bed before 9 most nights. Late nights and early mornings don't make for an agreeable and efficient worker. Sometimes I have to pencil in time for supper. Don't have time to eat lunch on the route.

Re: Chore Lists?

Example, I often stop by the paint counter at Lowe's to get a quart ofthe color of the day mixed.  I will write a big letter P on the back on my left hand, to remind me to pick the paint up before I head for the checkout, then swing through the rest of the store for other list items.  I never forget my paint can this way.

If someone calls while I am on the road and I haven't got paper on hand to write a note, that goes on the back of the hand, too.  I joke that if I lose my liost, I have to got home and start over.

I am keeping a running list of items that have to be painted, stained, polyed every day now...but, I ahve fallen behind this week.  Started a punch list for son on the finishing phases fo this project...couple of things need to be cut for me, and I might as well wait with my trusty paintbrush, until he does them.

Re: Chore Lists?

I never make list, if I did, I would forget where they were 🙂

Re: Chore Lists?

I do so well with my list at work but not good at all at home. With my Droid phone and tablet I am hoping to do better this year.

Re: Chore Lists?

Good luck with the technology plan...my best bet is still a pad of paper and a pencil.

We had agreed with son to let him help other clients for a while, after this week.  I have made a punch list of the project, so knew what was left to be done, and which things were most important.

When he walked in this mornig, carrying the cabinet doors I asked him to make in his shop when he left here on Monday, I had hsi day all laid out for him.  Mike came in, and, as usual, made a change to allow the Gas Man to have more time...I say we will still be waiting to get him in here at Valentine's Day.

Other than that, we rocked and rolled all day long, and got tons done.  I stayed one item ahead of him, pulling materials and setting up tools, then picking up between stages.  As he was wrapping up the last two items, I was putting his tools all together to load out and haul home.  I will have the rest of the list ready when he comes back in a few weeks, after the range hood for the back kitchen is in at Lowe's.

Fot the next two-three weeks, I have very little to do for finishing up this project at long last...mostly putting things away, and doing the artsy things.  My lists can have things like bread and milk oin them again, instead fo nails, paint and light fixtures....HOORAY!
