Re: Clearing brush?

I'm pretty good at pouring concrete too.   2 hog buildings,   4 hog lots,  2 driveways, 1 sidewalk, 1 machine shed/corn storage, (acutually got out of that one for being 7 months pg.), and 5 grain bins.   I've never been good with a hammer driving steeples,  or nails.  I can pull nails fairly well.   The house remodel will get me doing stuff again.

Headed to Menards again today.  Think I'll get a cheaper  wallpaper steamer.  I've got 3 big rooms to eventually do.   Need  to save my arms and muscles where I can.   If it dies after that  it will be worth it.   Never going with wallpaper again except for borders.

Re: Clearing brush?

Gosh, I feel like a pampered princess as I've never done any concrete work.  My FIL really liked doing these types of things, God rest his soul, so my job was to make substantial lunches & snacks when the concrete was done.

Can't say I've ever pounded steeples or done fencing either.  As far as chain saws go, I'm scared to death of them.

Close family friend was cutting brush & had done it for years when he hit a knot or something and the chain saw bounced back hitting him in the nose & facial area.  He had to go to Iowa City & have his sinus cavity & face stitched & reformed.  He didn't go out in public after that and actually went down hill rapidly until his passing.  He had a terribly time even eating or anything.  Many months of torture poor guy.

I do clear brush & trees with my pruner/loppers.  When we moved here after this place had sat empty for over 2 yrs, we had bridal wreath bushes  around the house that were halfway up the windows.  I got many blisters taking them down while DH clucked that I was killing them.  I never trim them to his specs, so while waiting for him every year they've again grown up.  I swore I would not do again by myself but we'll see.  If it was up to me I'd pull them out and do new landscaping but he likes them.  We also have some honeysicle pushes that were planted back in the ice age as a windbreak.  They have lots of dead limbs in the center that keep me busy.  They are really tough.

Taking care of the garden & yard work is the thing that is most satisfying to me.  Although a good house cleaning gives me a boost too.  (don't do enough of that)  Cleaning the parlor was another good one of the past.

Re: Clearing brush?

Good luck with the wallpaper and especially the steamer. We have talked about this before here. We finally gave up and painted over the paper that was stuck tight. You do need to **bleep** the paper with the gadget first and I think we added fabric softner to the water in the steamer.

Re: Clearing brush?

Suey, I don't think those ones from Menards are as powerful as the professional ones.  I rented one from Sherwin Willims paint store that worked well on all of mine.  It was very reasonable & powerful.  The Def product that mixes with water -dry powder- works pretty good too but a little more work.  Honestly don't know why I papered again other than some walls are bad & didn't want to live with wallboard dust.
