I heard that he was running because he didnt want to go to jail for child support again. Well then pay your child support & then you won't have to worry about it. Of better yet, keep your pants zipped.

But the guy was like 50 yrs old and didnt look like he was a threat to anyone. He certainly wasnt shot in self-defense. That cop just snapped.

Also moving objects in the scene makes him look like he is trying to cover up the crime. That puts a negative light on all officers, and makes many suspicious of those who are supposed to protect you. That is what is really sad. One cop, caught on camera, can paint an entire occupation of good, thoughtful police officers.

 I was selected for jury duty for april, may and june of this year. I am willing to serve, but springtime can be very important for my job. I contacted the kossuth county(iowa) clerk of court and told her that i was willing to serve, but  january, februrary and march would work much better for me. She said that was fine and that could be worked out, but needed my request in writing. that seemed like a very good option for a farmer, don't you think??

I have only been called for jury duty twice. First time, back in Va, I had a conflict with a summer university workshop program, with full scholarship. The judge excused me with a letter to that effect from my school principal.

Second time was a capital murder case here in NC. I went the first day and observed. Once the DA excused one person fir saying they couldn't render a death verdict, that was a fast ticket out the door fir dizens and dozens who didn't want to serve.

I came home that night with a very troubled conscience. The second chair on defense was the guy whi had defended my daughter's very persistent stalker. I hated him... couldn't get past the feelings from being on the witness stand, while he tried to twist our family and neighbors. I wrote a letter to the effect of that, to give to the judge if bpnecssary th next day.

My number was called, and I was being questioned by the DA, about the potential death verdict, etc. then, she asked me if I knew anyone on the defense. I said, " Yes, I know Mr. Warmack."
She asked how I felt about him, and I said, " I hate him."

The buzz of probably 200 people still in the courtroom stopped dead silent. It was stunning.

She asked if I could separate my feelings from the duty as a juror, say to myself, " He was just doing his job." She really wanted me on that jury, but I couldn't lie..."If it had been me, that might be one thing, but this was my child."

I was excused. The woman on trial was convicted and given life withou chance of parole. She and an accomplice had robbed a poor old lady and suffocated her with a Walmart bag. I would have loved to send her to Death Row.

Oh, third call! The few of us who answered were accounted fir, told we were exempt for two years, and let go, because nothing was on the Superior Court docket that session. I remember a court clerk in Va trying to force my father to serve at peanut harvest one year when I was a young child. That could've destroyed our family financially, if that crop had frozen and been discounted. There's a happy middle ground between one extreme and the other. Most people ignore that letter when it comes, and there should be a penalty for that...

I don't think you can ignore the letter here. But by writing a letter they treat farmers fair and will exempt for that trial.

From the roll call that day, I would say well over half ignored the letter. It is sent regular mail, not certified, so there is no proof that you got it or not.

My goal in life is to avoid the courthouse, except for jury duty. The times I have had to be there - for litigation with the lousy builder for this farm, or to pursue the guy who stalked our older daughter for several years, it was successful, but very stressful.

Taking a trespassing hunter there was a joy! The ADA was tough as nails, and said he wished everyone documented things as well as I did. Every other situation we have had potential for legal action, was negotiated out of court...much better.

Here in IL. you can write a letter with cause for excuse and if you get a letter back excusing, you are OK to stay away.  However, if you have no excuse and do not show up, a county deputy will be at your door to escort you to the courthouse.

Back to the guy that ran.   The tributes have just been raining in from lots of people.   I've been unable to find any quotes from:   2 ex-wives or any of his kids.     The cop was wrong... he'll probably get 2nd degree murder.    But,  in every case of  police violence they've thrown about the past 6 months.   If the victim had done as the officer told them.... they'd be alive today.

My BIL was a deputy sheriff, state patrol and then DCI.  I never really understood what he did in the DCI until his retirement party.  I think he enjoyed what he did, but the death that he saw in it all must have been hard.  He did alot of investigations.  We were in Memphis over the weekend and my sister swears she heard a gunshot in the middle of the night.  Then quiet, then talking.  It is a whole other world out there.  We really don't know what we have until we leave our little "space" of life. Heard on the TV that there were drive by shootings of young ones in that city.  I know here in CR, we have had alot of drive by shootings too.  Do not understand what people are thinking.  If you don't have anything to hide, don't run and don't shoot anybody!!
