DS duties & housekeeping
Another call to duty for DS, Conservation Officer-today he is headed to northern IL tornado area. He was also in Washington IL when they got hit so badly 2 yrs. ago. He has been tring to get his taxes done on his own for the first time and of course had a glitch. His social security number isn't correlating to his birthdate so needs to get to the S.S. office which leads to my housekeeping.
He needs his birthcertificate. I have torn the house apart and can't find his. I truthfully think I gave it to him when he either went into national guard or into the state position. BUT it certainly highlighted my terrible filing of such documents and everything else I've saved. You know-kid's report cards, your high school "stuff", kids mementos, etc. And of course now since DH's parents are gone & my dad too, I have their momentos also. And my photos-what a terrible mess in boxes! My mom's house is neat as a pin and organized. What happened to that gene passing to me? Anyway, now I need to organize the cedar chest. Everything is on the floor right now. And of course with going to the nursing home for mom, and doing her laundry, there is not a big block of time so -- of I hustle.
BTW, I thought the home would really take care of more of the medical info to the doctors but they seem to think I must do a better job because I'm always calling & waiting for dr. to call back.

Re: DS duties & housekeeping
We had to get new SS cards several years ago, fir driver's license renewals, because DMV won't accept laminated ones anymore. All SSA wanted was our driver's licenses. Kind of an ironic loop there....
Perhaps he could E-file, if necessary asking for an extension, and solve the snafu later? Certainly, he will learn not to procrastinate in the future. You never know when an emergency will crop up, and it sure did this time.
Our son called me a few weeks ago, about filing his own returns. He had a very simple one, so I told him to go for it. I think he told me yesterday it was very easy and inexpensive to do it online. I have had some Turbotax ads pop up for free filings. Wish we had such luck!
I hope your son is safe, and that these storms are done for now. You will solve the storage problem. Maybe ask the home about the info transfers. Most things should be in her EMR now....at least the recent stuff. Not so much need to sit on hold?!?
Our doctor's office had a sign up today, when I went in for this throbbing earache, saying they will be opening a " patient portsl" very soon. This way, you can access the electronic medircal record from pretty much anywhere. Surely, her many physicians can do that by now, too.

Re: DS duties & housekeeping
Kay, my issues with the home is informing the doctor of medical issues that need accounting for with either an appointment or medication. If she needs an appointment then I need to do the calling as I will be taking her according to my time schedule. She has no patience at all with health issues; some of which she has been putting up with and with no relief from the current medications.
She has also picked up a nasty chest & head cold which concerns me with the pneumonia she had.
DS & DIL usually have theirs done by now but usually has her uncle, a CPA, file for them. However, her grandmother was very ill & passed away recently and she was there alot attending her as she is a nurse. The uncle is POA and has been causing a lot of trouble with the settling of the estate for the rest of the family. (sound familiar?) So DS/DIL decided to file online but you have to enter your social security number and your birthdate and it kept getting kickbacked saying they do not match. First time with that problem so he is concerned with identity theft. Needs both his birth certificate & SS card to go to the office & straighten out. They have mailed the tax forms & hope to get this straightened out when he gets home from his duties for work. He already went back in old forms to make sure all was correct so it needs more attention.

I can fully understand why the home doesn't make appointments for you to fulfill...you wouldn't want them to, though, would you? You original post sonded more about infirmation transfer, not times you would have to drive...thus, my reply. Doctors have full access to a patient's EMR now...a major tenet of the ACA, to avoid duplicative tests at excess expense.
Good luck with both issues!

I am glad you mentioned the credit freeze as we have had to do that when two companies, one a resort and the other an insurance company, getting hacked. Both advise a free credit freeze which I did. Now I am having other financial people telling me it is not necessary. We just bought a new car unexpectedly and I had mine open for twenty four hours but forgot to change DH which caused problems with the joint title. I was beginning to doubt the advice to freeze credit. After this is finalized I am complaining about the respected car dealer's finance person.

Birth Certificate. Call the co. court house in county born in. I'm not certain but I think you can download a copy online. Son needed one before trip to Costa Rico... Once I informed him the right county got it taken care of.
As soon as I file everything away I'm finally done with 2014 taxes. I do not like dealing with all of this for so many. Hopefully, we have a plan in place now. All IRAs, HSAs, and taxes paid, sent certified for MIL. Of course ours was sent March 1st.
So glad we have computers to help with the taxes. I'd go nuts totaling all the columns with a calculator or can you imagine doing it with a pencil.... really old school.
Was glad that DD, SIL and DGD were north of the tornados. He finished feeding the little calves in the heavy rain, with tornado sirens in the background and text alerts the whole time. It seems like so many want to help after a tornado and it takes Law Enforcement to control the volunteers. In Washington, IL they had busloads of people show up and they only place to send them was to walk farmers fields. Farmers were VERY happy to get it too. The pleading to stop the used clothing in Washington, IL was heartbreaking. They had to rent warehouse space for all the STUFF. Most of these people had to no place to put STUFF for months. Please, send money... unless you are going to help a specific person who you know needs the stuff. And from the vicitims I heard the Salvation Army was better with serious help than Red Cross.

DS got his birth certificate-the wrong month. I need to check Brian's as it was his birth month. Suey, you have to provide ID of drivers license & SS card to get a copy. Don't understand how it went through all these years with no glitches. Scary.

It might just be simpler to sing Happy Birthday on the paper date....
