Devastated
One of our participants who has been with us a year, completed every requirement imposed on him by the courts, cheerfully and gratefully, turned his life around and became a joy to watch as he grew and changed his behavior....his world came crashing down this morning when a house fire claimed the life of his 15 year old daughter. We are devastated for this man, his wife and son.
His wife dropped him off at 6am and went on to her job at a local gas and convenience store five minutes away. At 615 she came screaming into the building that a neighbor had called her saying their son had come to their home to call 911...the house was on fire from a box fan that overheated. He tried unsuccessfully to rouse his sister and to put out the fire beffore running to the neighbors. By the time mom and dad got home, maybe a 7 minute drive, the fire dept was there with the house fully engulfed. It was too late. Daughter died of smoke inhalation.
Crisis counselors here in my facility on Thursday. Small community. It is a very sad situation. I counted today and this is the fifth child lost to various participants during my ten year stint here. Im not sure how many more I can take.

Re: Devastated
I know it is hard for you. I hate to think how hard it is for many of your employees. May the Lord be with you so you can help those who need your help. Times like these are when we need our faith. God Bless.

So sad and something we cannot understand the 'why'. Accidents are just that.

Re: Devastated
The dad came in today, confused and needing guidance. He was told by the funeral home that they would not be able to accomodate the large numbers of people expected to attend the memorial service. He asked about local churches and if I knew if any had a capacity of 500 plus.
I suggested the local high schhol or the community college. He just melted at the idea of either place especially the highschool where she was a student. He asked me if I would help him secure a venue. After calls to the college president and the school district superintendent, we had the offers for both venues. It will be at the school which will hopefully make it more comfortable for her classmates to attend.
I was so glad to be able to help in this small way. Please keep this family in prayer. Dad is hanging on to his sobriety by a thread.
