Equipment decorations!!!

Just wondering how many of you decorate your many $$$$$$$ machines. My DH will not let us put lights on the combine or tractors, but some farms around decorate theirs. One home had their spray airplane sitting in the front yard with Santa on it. I told him we could do one of the old tractors, but we never have. Just wondered if any one on here decorates?

Re: Equipment decorations!!!

I am not aware of anyone in our area that does that with machinery.  Several, including us, decorate barns.  Our old restored barn gets four window swags across the side facing the road.  This is the same side as our barn quilt block.  We had a spot light installed on the barn this year to light up the quilt block so it all looks pretty festive....but no machinery gets lights around here.

If you have a picture of any from your area, please post.  I would like to see it.

Re: Equipment decorations!!!

One family across the county puts lights on an antique tractor that sits out by the road at their farm shop. They use those lights in motion to make it look like the wheels are turning...pretty cute. Our equipment is mostly haying stuff and irrigation guns and pumps. Not very picturesque. I have thought about putting lights on the saltbox barn that sits nearest the highway. White lights on a red barn would be very festive; however, climbing that high for no good reason is not something I would want my family to do. Maybe we will do the store next year, after it's painted red, too. Right now, that work is taking third position, after the farm and kitchen repairs.

Re: Equipment decorations!!!

I have seen old antique tractors that are usually in the front yard year round decorated.    Around here my husband demands that anything with a motor is in a shed.   No way the combine would ever be allowed to sit out.     Many years ago he bought a new manure wagon and left it setting out  till I threatened to put lights on it if he didn't get it out of my way.

Re: Equipment decorations!!!

All our machinery is kept inside.  I told my husband one day we were out and about that I was gonna decorate the wagon frame that has steel wheels that was sitting in the yard...I think he snickered and said "I think we put that away"!  Dang!  I love yard art!  One year I made a tractor and wagon out of number 9 wire and zip ties and put lights on it.  Wasn't very sturdy or very big, but I didn't put it up again and I think the wire got used.  I keep trying to tell my son to make me something like that in school.  I have put out a few wreaths on gates both wooden and wire and ribbons on a couple things, I always have big thoughts, but never follow through I guess.  DH did say last year we should get a big wreath to put on our barn as you come in the drive.  I could still get that.  Oh, and I was gonna set out some snow fence and decorate it too, but he said if I did that he would burn all the snowfence.  : (!

Re: Equipment decorations!!!

Oh, I forgot the honeywagon!  Wouldn't set anything of value out near the road here...idiots with guns like to shoot holes in signs and such as it is.

I have seen some cute Halloween decorations using big round bales, but my crowd wouldn't waste good hay that way!

Re: Equipment decorations!!!

I would love to put a star on top of the highest silo.  Couple of places have that around here.

Would really like to blow the money on a life size creche to put in front of the barn.  The 2 small stave silo's enclose a kind of little alcove in front of the old silo room.  Would be absolutely perfect for the manger scene.  But that stuff is a little pricey for us.  They're beautiful though.  Saw a couple of sets when the girls and I went to Bronner's in Frankenmuth  one year.

Re: Equipment decorations!!!

I would love to do a live nativity scene in our restored barn.  It is perfect for that.  Ahhhhh, maybe when I finally retire.

Re: Equipment decorations!!!

I used to love decorating outside but maybe it is 'been there and done that' I just don't do it much now. I have never decorated equipment but I have seen it done. My favorite is probably green lights on a hula hoop and a set of red lights on the bottom for the ribbon. I have that out this year and it is always very showy. I have put that on the barn.
