Have House Plans drawn up!!!! YAY!!!!
It's getting closer to a reality!!!! I have floorplans in my hands and Todd and I looked over them again last night. We are doing a ranch style 1 floor on a fully cemented crawl space. The house will be 32' wide by 68' long with a 40 x 32 garage. The house will be roughly 2100 sq ft of living space. The kitchen, dining room, and living room will be on 1 end with the bedrooms in the middle and a family room on the other end. The family room is really Todd's "man cave". We tweaked the floor plan a bit so the laundry room is in the middle of the house next to the bedrooms and I can access it from the master closet as well as the hallway. We are doing a put through cupboard on the master bathroom wall so I can have a laundry basket right there for dirty towels and then when they are clean I can just put them back in the cupboard for our use. Once we get the final bids we can finish the bank process and hopefully start building by July 1. Oh I really can't wait...:D

Re: Have House Plans drawn up!!!! YAY!!!!
I am pretty jealous! I wouldn't even know where to start on house plans.
We need a new house but not in the budget. I don't want to spend my retirement money on a new house and am much too old for a mortgage. So we are going to remodel our bathroom and maybe parts of the kitchen. Haven't spent any money on the house in 25 years except the roof. Stuck all our money into the farm. We might just sell the place after we retire and it can be someone else's project.
Enjoy!

Sounds wonderful. Do it right the first time. I keep wondering just where you found time this time of year to even think of house plans? Way to go and Good Luck!

Re: Have House Plans drawn up!!!! YAY!!!!
Are you open to suggestions? Putting in senior friendly or handicapped friendly features often is very little more money now. The right shower, toilet and sink are a place to start, as well as the right size doors and easy access or ramps. Grab handles built in as needed. I'm not trying to butt in.

Re: Have House Plans drawn up!!!! YAY!!!!
I will second Jim's suggestion. We country people like our little slice of HEaven, and aren't into flipping a house every so often.
Many of us have been talking about adaptations lately on here...if not for ourselves, for our parents who want to stay in their homes as long as possible. It happens before you know it.
With Todd's foot problems in the recent past, you surely know about mobility enhancement!

Re: Have House Plans drawn up!!!! YAY!!!!
I'm open to any and all suggestions. We've already thought about the accessiblity parts and that's why we are not having a tub in the guest bathroom. That will be a walk or roll in shower. We are also going to raise the garage up so that there will be no steps from the garage to the house...it will be just 1 level. The doors will be 36" minimum to the bedrooms and bathrooms. We are really looking at the barn door type with the sliding instead of opening in and out for closets and what not.
I only have time for this because we've been planning and talking for such a long time that we have most things in place. Plus I can multi-task like a pro. LOL Actually a lot of my farmers have given me inputs and ideas so it's been a good topic of discussion as we talk about their inputs and needs too.

This sounds like a dream for you. So glad you are making good choices. While I had posted another time of our shower on the main floor, etc. I didn't take into account the wider doors. Not sure we could stay here if one of us was in a wheelchair.
