Making progress...and rednecks/ ramblings

Here is the funky front corner of the greenhouse shed, almost done with window sash ( two more to frame in and trim ) and the door is hung and trimmed in. I hope we complete the last two sash in place tomorrow, then I REALLY need to deal with the cruddy front porch, and control some crabgrass.

Suey, there may be Roundup involved!

We got rain here again last night, off and in all day. That stuff grows so fast, you can tell from morning to night that it grew while you were doing something besides spraying it....

Got to hose off the front porch here at Jenna's. The spiders leave poop on everything. I never knew spiders left droppings, until I moved into an old house. Just like tiny pigeons.

While we were working on the greenhouse, about midafternoon, one of the tenants down the lane came to ask if there was something " wrong" among the two mules and one horse here. Evidently, their family enjoys feeding them treats, now that they are on the paddock by that house.

Evidently, the horse and one mule are being mean girls to the other mule...we laughed and said, " they can be real bitches!"

She told us about a Confederate flag rally run starting here in Dinwiddie today. Mike and I had just talked about our opinions of the whole flag kerfuffle right before she rolled up.
We both have Confederate ancestors, but feel that public displays of the Stars and Bars are simply inflammatory. On your private property it is up to you. Rollng through several towns with it flapping put of the back of your pickup truck is kind of asking for trouble.

Not exactly what you want your home sweet home known for...hoping it isn't a slow-enough news day for the national news organizations to pick it up. It did make state broadcasts.

Chicken coming in off the grill. Ta-ta!

Have you or your daughter okayed the treats?  I'd be more concerned they feed something wrong and end up with a vet bill.

The green house looks pretty cool though...I'm jealous of your progress.  😄

We entered the pre-construction apprasial stage now and the guy will be out tomorrow afternoon to walk the property.  I'm hoping we hear something soon so we can get started.

She said carrots and apples. It is hard to hurt a mule...

Glad to hear the house process is moving forward...worse getting ready to build than actually building!

Good post, Kay. Long time since I visited this site. Hey, have you ever visited the restaurant called The Chef and the Farmer in Kinston? We watch their show on PBS.

Thanks...and I have missed you!

No, we don't really eat out anymore. Knston is a few hours south of us, and we rarely go that way. Supposed to be a great place, from what I hear.

You are making good progress!    That will be nice when it is done.

Very little progress is happening on my projects lately.   We are trying to put up hay in between chances of rain.  Plus it got extremely hot this week so anything that is even remotely hot isn't getting done.

Very slow progress on moving here.   I try to take something over everyday.  Even if it is only a toy or 2.   Today  helper  was able to paint the closet in one of the upstairs bedrooms.   That way I can go ahead and fill that closet.   We also worked together to take wallpaper off the walls in the  "ugly wallpaper room".   Working together with a steamer  we got the room's walls finished.  One steamed and the other scraped.  The floor was a mess! And I will admit to wasting electricity .. I ran a wallpaper steamer and a window AC  at the same time.   Next  I'll start removing  the ceiling wallpaper.   Want to get this done so the carpenter can mud the old plaster walls.   There is some serious cracks and  the corners and joints were never finished off.  I simply used  caulking in the corners of the closet.

The carpenter was back today  to start demolition of the tiny bathroom.   He has some ideas of reworking things.   Not sure Tom will agree to all of it.   It means loosing a small closet in the living room... but gaining space for bathroom storage and ability to turn around.   Maybe even allowing 2 people in the room at the same time.

Slow but steady.   Helpers have county fair this week so today was their last day this week.  In fact only day.  Yesterday was too hot and humid to try and work.

Planning on having the heating duct work cleaned when we get done.  Got the estimate today.  Hopefully,  it will help with our allergy symptoms.

Trying to figure out furniture to take and will fit.    Haven't moved for 38 years!    Good thing I have an empty farrowing house to help house my indecisions.

You are making progress. I understand the need for AC while steaming wall paper.  That is not easy to remove. Now is certainly the time to make all of the improvements before moving in. You are very patient and you are very fortunate to find a good helper.

Re: Making progress...and rednecks/ ramblings

Sounds like yucky work for hot weather! In fact, removing wallpaler is yucky anytime. I don't think if it as wasteful, wg
Hen you are making a space comfortable enough for working on it.

Sounds like your carpenter has good ideas. I would think a bathroom large enough to be more functional trumps a closet in a living room. I like your idea of moving stuff as the area is ready for it. My worst habit is piling up a space before it is really ready.

Wish I could hire some help to clean up the greenhouse lumber ends and organize thw workshop building, but organizing is so individualized, it almost has to be DIY, doesn't it?

Maybe your potential tenant and kids could help you walk things over? I would thonk she would be motivated.

I have gotten trifling about carrying stuff...pile it in the Mule instead to move it! Right now, all the carpentry stuff has to get across to the garage, the gardening stuff mostly in the garage to the greenhouse. Better believe that I will be using that UTV!

Re: Making progress...and rednecks/ ramblings

Suey, a late suggestion.  We had one room that had really bad walls under the wallpaper, so we put thin 1/4" wallboard over top of the wallpaper.  Nice fresh finish.  You will really appreciate this house after all your hard work.
