Melts my heart

Winn was gone from early Friday afternoon, all weekend, to state final barrel races, with his Mama. Rare not to see him for the entire weekend, so I missed him a lot.

Today, we had massages starting at eight at their house...mine was at nine. He slept in with his Daddy, hung out eating breakfast and watching cartoons, and left with me when my massage was done.

Mike took him out to pick tomatoes and check the pool filter, while I was showering to wash off the oils the therapist uses...it is a killer if you leave it on in hot weather. Just cannot cool off with sweat trapped underneath a coat of oil.

After I got that lathered off, we had some fun out by pool. A bit after one, I mentioned that naptime starts at two.

I do not understand why his other grandparents say he " won!t take a nap." We agreed that we would watch one " Caillou" episode, then sleep.

That gave us a while to putter in the yard. I had been bugged by a crop if cabgrass coming up in the gravel and flagstone walk to the side entrance, and as we walked around to that door, started stooping and pulling.

It is a reflex, more than anything. Suey, the backpack sprayer is collecting cobwebs. I will still spray a pasture fenceline, but am truly trying to wean myself off of Roundup in the yards.

As we bent over and tugged out the clumps, Winn said, "I SO love you , MaMa!" I answered that I love him ,too.

Then, a few minutes later, " I really like helping you, MaMa!"

"i don't know what I would do without your help, Winn." It's true. He really is a lot of help now.

I will never get to be the Disneyland grandma, but I can be the one that spends these few minutes learning to weed a walk. We get hot and dirty, then go in and clean up, snuggle in for a cartoon, and some ZZZs.

Sweet!  I too am not the grandma who splurged on sweet treats,  junk, etc.  And I have to admit they seem to always flock that way to sit at games, etc.  Why not?  It's a continuous trip to the concession stand while I offer water & fruit.  But it doesn't bother me any more.  They ask to come here to crash often enough to make me happy.  Hopefully they will value these times as they age even more.

Re: Melts my heart

One of our DGS frequently pops in and he usually has not eaten. I can always find him something.  I sometimes wonder if that is all he will remember me for but we are close. He is working now so those days will be much fewer.

Re: Melts my heart

I think the way to a man's heart is supposed to be through his stomach...so, you shoukd be safe!

This was a long day with Winn today. He and his little pup rode up from NC to Jenna!0's house thus morning. PaPa had stayed over when I left yesterday, because the hay feeder delivery and potash application were both set for yesterday or today, depending...they ended up both being this afternoon.

We helped PaPa with finishing the greenhouse roof, then Winn passed out while we werecriding to get the receipts for the potash...which the biosolids guy has to have before he can land apply. I got drenched by someone devilish, who was helping me hose down and scrub the stack of salvaged windows for the two endwalls.

We got about 1/3 of them done before the ride to the farm supply, then I parked the car by where we were working so he could continue napping in the shade. Daughter got herpig work done early, then did her errands snd mani-pedi thing. We met her about five, 2/3 of the way back home.

Winn and I walked the puppy while she grabbed their supper, then Ii had to say " Goodbye!" He looked so sad when he said, "I'm going to miss you, MaMa...." , as they were clicking their seatbelts.
