New cat!
Today I am taking home a new cat! Our Animal Health program has some cats up for adoption and I jumped on the chance. http://www.kirkwood.edu/animaladoption
B.C. Is going home with me tonight. Hopefully my DH and DS will welcome him. I am not sure when I showed the picture to my DH that he was very thrilled. I lost my housecat about a year and a half ago and have really missed having one. I love our inside/outside dog, Sam. but he is way too big for a lap dog! We will have several kitties this spring out in the barn. But inbreds at my house don't fare well. They either stay small or be sick. The last cat I was gonna take in the house, I gave shots to and he still didn't make it - he was a runt to begin with. I know, I really need to get some of the fixed again. We still have 4 or so that were fixed about 6 years ago. Anyway, It is a beautiful day out there and hope I can enjoy at least a little bit of it.

Re: New cat!
I've got a 75# lab who likes to think he's still a lap dog. Congrats on the new kitty, they are fun animals. I have decided however that after my current house cat passes over the rainbow bridge I will not have any more. Viper is 17 years old now and getting pretty slow. I'm waiting for the day she tells me its time to go and will miss her terribly when it does happen. She's a fun companion and doesn't let the dogs mess with her. She keeps them in their place pretty easily.

Re: New cat!
we've had 1 old cat in the house for several years now. Wasn't a farm cat. Got him in town from someone in a parking lot. He's so funny, never been able to meow correctly and very gentle. Getting slow, about 10 years old I think and has started acting like everything hurts him, walks like he's stepping on glass, shys away from every touch. Still goes outside some but not much anymore.
Recently decided to bring one of last summer's barn kittens to the house. Was a runt, always under foot in the parlor, always wet cause she was always right by my feet and never seemed to grow. So I brought her in, cleaned her up and she is the sweetest little thing. Thought she had ear mites so we treated for that. Then she started getting this growth in her ear. took her to vet and it is a polyp. Not an easy fix. It originates down in her inner ear and will have to be removed from up through the jaw. vet has never done the procedure, has a DVD about it. Last cat he had with this they sent to the university and the owners spent over 2000.00 getting it fixed. I'm not going to spend that kind of money on a cat. Wouldn't even spend that kind of money on a cow and they make the money. So when his schedule allows him the time, he'll call and try the procedure on her and what happens happens.
There have been several really pretty and sweet barn cats over the years and I always resisted bringing them into the house. Wouldn't you know, when I do give in it turns into a problem. But hey even my husband likes this little cat, she is so sweet.

Re: New cat!
After seeing his proflie picture, I would say BC stands for "Beautiful Cat." Tuxedo cats are among my favorite animals...although we can't have house cats, due to allergies in the family.
Enjoy him, and congratulations on adopting an animal in need of a home. Your school is doing a neat thing with these kitties. Good program.

Re: New cat!
Lab...lap...sounds about the same to me! I feel you pain...Mike's last acquisition, Suzie Q, in only 40 pounds, but that is the densest weight I've ever had flop into my chair with me. She is like lifting a lead anchor.
Oh, the magnetic blanket thing: I ordered a madnetic coverlet, but decided to use it uinderneath the sheet, instead of on top of us, since the house stays so warm with Mike's super boiler going. It is too soon to say, but I am sleeping better, with that and the foam gel mattress.
We are stepping up our physical training around here..."walking plus" on warm days. Daughter pushed teh jogging stroller three miles while I walked a loop of two yesterday, then did an hour of TKD. She pushed while I road my bike 4.2 today. Whenever I got too far ahead of them, I stopped and did TKD forms at the end of a farm path. Good workout.
I would never have gotten back on the bike, if not for my joints feeling better. Thank you for telling us about the magnetic blankets. I actually ordered some magnetic insoles for the family today. Mike says our chiropractor had seen them demonstrated at a convention, and says some people swear by them, for improved energy.
