Ready for Christmas?

Daughter just messaged me on Facebook, reminding me that Christmas is just a week away...I guess a week and a day, if you want to get technical about it. I have never been less prepared this close to the day, and don't see myself getting ready for everything in time. Guess it's just been too hectic, with the grandson arriving right before Thanksgiving, and the house torn to smithereens. She brought over cookies today, and Winn came in for a few minutes...little man has passed the 10- pound mark...was four weeks old today. Amazing how fast he is filling out. I plan one more quick trip to town, not counting building supply runs. Need a few groceries things for Christmas morning. I am thinking about some country ham rolls to accompany our usual muffins and hot cider. The tree won't be much of a problem, since it is such a small one. Need to finish stitching the baby's stocking, though. Maupybe to or row afternoon will be a good chance to get on that job. What do you serve on Christmas morning at your house? Are you ready for the big day?

Re: Ready for Christmas?

NO -and it's getting worse.  My mom seems to get in a daily rant which has been very stressful.  I'm coming down with a bronchial bug (stress isn't helping) and have a gift & a card to purchase yet.  When is the issue there.

AND my DIL's uncle is passing away in FL. hospital.  His daughter (my DIL's first cousin) was raised like a sister to her (mom deserted-father alcholic) and she is leaving this afternoon for FL. to be with as a last min. decision.  He has just been moved to ICU (he has cancer everywhere) and we don't know if she'll be gone until Wed. night or what.

So DS needs help with kids.  Such a sad thing to happen anytime but holiday makes it worse.  Her cousin lives in VA.

and has two little ones so she has had to leave them also.  So, I guess I should have gotten my act together better.

Live & learn.  Gotta go wrap what I have.

They have certainly been stingy with boxes this year-my tree might look like a bag tree!

Re: Ready for Christmas?

Sorry to hear that your extended family is dealing with a death so close to their hearts.

I am convinced that Christmas will be here a week from today, whether we feel ready for it or not.

Re: Ready for Christmas?

I think you hit the nail on the head.  So why stress?  Just go with the flow.  That's what I'm good at.  Even my mil has told me to quit always going with the flow and learn to take a stand.

Re: Ready for Christmas?

I am not ready either...keep picking up little things that could be used in an emergency.  I have been decorating little by little.  My tree is differant than it ever has been.  Not using all the "family" ornaments this year.  Raffia bows, ribbon with snowflakes on it, small red bulbs, and my red wooden beads.  I have made a few small ribbons to go on the tree too out of the snowflake ribbon.  Made some bows at work and got compliments on them, so I have been getting carried away with bows at home.  I went to a house walk a week or so ago and I guess I think that I could decorate as well as or better than some of those places.  Not that anyone will visit me over the holidays, but it sure makes it more fun.  May post some pictures on facebook this week...but I keep thinking of things to decorate - inside and out!

Re: Ready for Christmas?

Please do share some photos.  It would be a shame for all that hard work not to be seen.  Maybe it will get me into the spirit, too!

I  think one reason we are so isolated in our workplace, there is no constant chatter of other people getting their holiday preparations made to egg us on.  Mike is not a big Christmas person, so with no kids at home anymore, I sort of got slack, too.

I am doing my last shopping trip tomorrow, if all goes well with the kitchen today, and I can get the rest of the building stuff and banking for the week done this afternoon, or at least on my way out tomorrow.  We have a meeting of our friends of the park group for the waterfowl park tonight, and dinner afterwards.  Lookign foward to that outing to boost my mood!

Re: Ready for Christmas?

Well let me jump on the bus too, first day to shop was just yesterday, DD did the decorating this year too.  The only cards I sent out was to the WIA ones, usaly I send ALOT!

Going to have my sister and her family over and then BIL and his...going to have a "As seen on TV" gift exchange this way I thought I would not have to buy for all the adults in my life...sneaky or what.  The youngest is 13 so everyone will be involved too.  Still have to buy those gifts too....today.

Thanks for all the cards coming in from you gals too!  It gives me a time to just sit and relax and enjoy the moment knowing your out there incase I ever need a true friend.

Merry Christmas

Sandy

Re: Ready for Christmas?

This is the one time of year that I open the mailbox with happy anticipation of something other than bills and business issues to deal with as a result. We got home from a Cnristmas party last night, and stopped to pickup the mail from our box by the road as I turned in. Mike gave me a hard time for turning on the dome light in the truck, since I was so excited to see the cards that came, I didn't want to wait thirty seconds to get to the house.

Re: Ready for Christmas?

Yes, it is nice to be getting cards from you ladies. Someone had a great idea, thanks.  I picked up the towel yesterday and will get it mailed today. I think I finished shopping yesterday but will probably need to get more groceries since I can't decide on the dessert. The grandkids like the same traditional meal each holiday but I do try to add something different.

Re: Ready for Christmas?

Heck yes I am!!!  For once!!!!  Yay me!  😄  That is if I can make it this week with going home and all the gifts are still wrapped.  Paige gets left out of her kennel and tends to get "bored" some days.  Yesterday was the first day and we were good so I'm curious to see how the rest of the week works out.  I got cards in the mail yesterday along with my towel AND I recieved my towel yesterday in the mail which was really cool!!!  I'm busy this week with work delievering hams to my growers and we leave on Friday for my parents place.  I plan on working a half day on Friday and then taking the dogs to the kennel and picking up Todd so we can head down to right away.  It's a long drive but will be fun.  I noticed a big change in the number of gifts this year as my brother and sister and I are all going in on gifts for mom and dad (coffee maker and a Kindle) plus the nieces and nephews.  I really like just having to send a check to my sister and my brother and I are even steven so life is good.  LOL  I even wrapped the little stuff I bought Todd (we aren't exchanging gifts this year) right in front of him and he was clueless.  LOL  He's getting socks and underware from the dogs and a wallet from Santa and I framed a picture of his big muskie and that is from "The Fish"  LOL
