Re: Safety with Livestock and small Children
I saw it too but had no time to post. No animal should be trusted especiall when they are new moms. I got lambasted by a dairy cow because I held the gate open on a pen trying to give our dog a way out. Should have stood on the OTHER side. I was a newby to farming then but I never forgot the horrible, huge bruise I got on my thigh. I probably scared our grandkids by screaming at them to stay out of the way.
That Canada story just tormented me. What a tragedy.

Re: Safety with Livestock and small Children
And... I'd like to add: know when it is time to put an animal down. when 3 professionals/vets tell you to stop wasting your time. Quit wasting time and money. The calf in question should have been put down $400 and 4 months ago. It shouldn't be a pet, it is a runt, a place for bacteria and yuk to keep growing. He is shouldn't be forced to die a slow painful death.
Now that time and money has been wasted, next she will be complaining about a lack of money in farming.

Re: Safety with Livestock and small Children
Oh that is so true Suey..
Our neighbors 'rescued' several off the track horses and were so proud of themselves for saving them from the kill buyer. Long story short.. the sheriff had to be called in for cruelty to animals.. At least one horse died of starvation and the others were so pitifully thin that death would have been a blessing.

Re: Safety with Livestock and small Children
Our daughter has become the last stop for cats that won't make housecat status from the local rescue. I am glad I raised such a compassionate child, but it is getting out of hand.
She and Winn rolled until midnight bringing us four from Death Row a few weeks ago. Her in-laws just pulled up with five more, which this child and I get to deliver there tonight, because she ahs a broken feed motor to repair here.
I am sure they smelled me getting ready to get done with bookkeeping, and turned right up! They will keep him 'til five, but not a second after.....
