Soup bowls, swings & speech ( free can be costly!)
The set is very nice (pre-Chinese Pfaltzgraff), but the place bowls are too deep to enjoy soups or salads in. We eat a lot of both, so Mike asked me last night, over our plate of chili, to please buy some flatter bowls.
Instead of dragging home something that does not match, I opted to go online and buy four shallower bowls. Am trying a shipment to the front porch here for the first time...saved the NC Sales tax, and having to load them up to come here.
Made me wonder: do you have " everyday china"? We had sets of inexpensive stoneware for eons...until the kids got grown.
The guys got the swingset mostly done for Winn yesterday. We left them trying to decode the directions, and they did everything but hang the swings and rings. I hope we can manage those six eye bolts. We have the sandbox yet to frame and fill. This isn't really Christmas giving, but he enjoys the playground at the park so much, we decided to go ahead, while the men had the time.
Do you have swings and other outdoor play areas for your grands? What do you find they enjoy most?
Final ramble this morning...what do you think of the Duck Dynasty fiasco, over the homophobic remarks Phil Robertson made in a GQ Magazine interview? First Paula Deen, now the Ducks...will Honey Boo-Boo be the next redneck to fall out of favor?

Re: Soup bowls, swings & speech ( free can be costly!)
Good title. I don't like Duck Dynasty but I would think that man should have know better. And what about the basketball coach from IL who was shouting and rambling against his team?
I do need to replace our everyday dishes but when I bought some new small plates a year ago DH managed to break some of them. I have holiday dishes I use for each of our family dinners. I just purchased three more Christmas plates from Replacements and they can be pricey. I was lucky and found some Thanksgiving plates to match mine in an antique store. But it is easier to buy from Replacements. I needed more plates for boyfriend etc.

Re: Soup bowls, swings & speech ( free can be costly!)
DS#1 likes Duck Dynasty and to their credit they do pray, but I haven't watched it as no dish here yet. I add yet because watching TV at night is pretty poor a lot of nights. We have Netflix but many times I don't see something we all can enjoy that isn't quite old. Talked to Staples yesterday about Chrome. Anyone have any experience with that?
I think these celebrities don't realize that every word that comes out of their mouth on or off screeen, is picked up by some reporter. Wouldn't really want to have to watch every word I said (right or wrong) every minute of the day.
I seem to put my foot in my mouth far to easily.

Re: Soup bowls, swings & speech ( free can be costly!)
I don't worry about dishes much. Doesn't really matter to me if every thing matches. Have a beautiful set of china I bought when I just graduated from high school. Haven't had it out in years and figure it would be pretty hard to find pieces to expand the set. I came with a deal for wearever cookware. Best pots and pans I ever had.
When every one is home we use the John Deere set that the kids got me a few years ago. But I don't have very many serving pieces of that either.
As for Duck Dynasty. We occasionally watch it. Find it quite refreshing and amusing. I think it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. I think it could get nasty and it probably should. I think maybe it is the time to have the debate on whether vocalizing your "Christian" point of view is OK. In other words I don't think for the most part Phil Robertson said anything wrong, or anything he needs to apologize for.
I don't consider myself antigay nor do I consider myself intolerant. Every body will answer to God for their own actions. But I don't think it is right for the proponents of alternative live styles to say disagreeing with them is a "hate crime".
I for myself will be tuning in A&E very little in the near future.

Re: Soup bowls, swings & speech ( free can be costly!)
Just to put myself right with the devision, I toddled through the open stock china at Target in town. I paid more, but there was nothing there that anywhere near matched, and it wasn't cheap, either.
If I am not basically satisfied with something I have to eat out of several times a week, I will end up replacing it down the road anyway. It s so rare for Mike to ask for something like this, hate to ignore him when he does.

Re: Soup bowls, swings & speech ( free can be costly!)
I still have the Pfaltzgraff dishes I got for wedding present. some are getting chipped up though. they are the heavier ones. I did find some lighterweight corelle dishes at my mom's. Am using them for a smaller plate. Don't need to eat as much as a big plate and the smaller ones are lighter for my old shoulders. I do need to replace my glasses as I think i really only have one of the 26 year old glasses left! Others have been in and out of the dishwasher a million times and are all cloudy. Son looks in the glasses everytime before he pours his milk in. I got a $100 gift card to Younkers from my team here at work, so maybe dishwear would be a nice "gift" to me. As far as duck dynasty, I haven't ever seen an episode. I don't think voiceing your opinion means your a hater or bullying. i don't know what was said really. I need to be open as my daughter's SIL has a partner...both are wonderful gals!

Re: Soup bowls, swings & speech ( free can be costly!)
I've seen Duck Dynasty a couple of times and though it's not a favorite show of mine it's better then some of the other crap that's out there. I actually give Phil Robertson credit for stating his beliefs in a non-confrontational way. Nothing he said was terrible or offensive.

Re: Soup bowls
Wife made homemade chicken noodle for the christmas eve soup fest. Brocelli-Cheddar, Chili and torilla soup.were also on the menu. A farm fresh chicken and boughten noodles. You can buy good store bought noodles.
Any way the chicken noodle was by far the best. It was made a couple days before and refrigerated. Why is it that soup gets better with age? Well I totally pigged out on chicken soup and left most of the suger goodies on the plate. Good old diabetic I am.
Well I ate the last few remnants a couple of hours ago and it was still good. But back to the bowls. They used styrofoam bowls and they are an accident waiting to happen. We didn't have any accidents but that must have been a miracle.
I wasn't the life of the party. They shot me with a video camera snoring during the gift openings. The little ones were more attentive. The two year old got a toy hair dryer and a hair brush. She was very serious while she did her own hair. She must have seen mommy do that . A little battery driven fan gave her the illusion of doing the real thing.
I wonder if any one wants to do the Oyster stew thing for new years eve. If they make it a day or so before it would be perfect. Now if they would just celebrate in the afternoon I might be able to stay awake.

Those videos will be priceless in a few years, snores and all!
