Storm scare

One of our daughter's friends is the county EMS coordinator. Today, she called to warn of a tornado seen near our area. Daughter called us, to say they were heading into their safe ahed, and to tell us to move to ours.

Turned out to be a false alarm, at least here at our place. i realized I was shaking so hard, I guess from adrenaline. it is hard to look around and think it could be wiped away in a matter of moments. For the first time ever, I felt we all had a secure place to ride one
out, and I knew the kids were safe, too.

How do you folks that deal with this threat day after day deal with it? I would be a nervous wreck.

I thought you must have been comforted to have your shelters in place after all the news these past few days. We rarely have tornadoes here but we do have a cellar. Is this going to be a new norm?

We have a cellar and are within earshot of our town's tornado sirens.  Plus I subscribe to a tornado alert app on my smartphone.  We are right sqaure at the north end of tornado alley and I had rarely ever encountered anything like a tornado back home in upstate NY so I take this stuff seriously.

I conduct two tornado drills a year at my work facility as we are spread out and vulnerable as a metal building.  I feel very responsible for the 60-80 people in my building each day.  

I worry about one of our kids the most.  DDs family lives in a one story frame house, stick built, no brick and no basement.  But looking at the aftermath of the OK storms I realize that in the worst storm even a well built school is no match.  They have a plan in place and our area typically has a lot of warning....it is the one that might come while we are sleeping that worries me most.

after our early morning wind "event" on May 21 (day after Moore's tornado) I was bothered, I might just be a basket case if we had real damage........
