Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?

Kay, your explaniation explains very well WHY the court denied action in this case.

However, I have a problem, with the elected officials in the State, in ignoring the vote of the people.   They had an election, where this issue was properly put on the ballot, voted on, and passed.   However, the bureaucrats decided that they didn't like the decision, and didn't show up in court.  By them doing this, the lawsuit went to the other side by default.   What is to prevent government officials from simply ignoring the people's vote in the future, now that precident has been set?

Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?

FUNNY!! That's the best humor I've heard on the subject. I have 2 in extended family that are gay but never push it. But have a friend who's daughter (gay) is having wedding this weekend, using a wedding planner and the whole shabang. Have heard "The Wedding " more than I can stand. Glad it's out east & I wasn't invited. I'm tolerant but not that much.

Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?

My DD has a SIL that is gay.  Her and her friend are very nice people.  THey have a little boy...I think the "father" is still in the picture some as I have seen picture of him with the boy.  I still beleive marriage is between a man and a woman, but if they want to be friends and do what they want in their own home, that is up to them.  I don't like to see it in public, but then again, some male/female activities in public aren't acceptable either!!!

I agree. Same with TV shows. Better to leave behind closed doors.

Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?

My  feeling is that no one's sexualkity ought to be a subject for public discussion.  I don't want to talk about mine, yours, or anyone else's.

I guess having Winn on hand now, and looking so much like his Aunt Jenna, reminds me of a lot of things that I saw and heard when she and her siblings were small.  "Gay" meant "happy", and people kept their personal business private.

I know that I learned a LOT from Phil Donahue's show...would still be a total blank on such matters, I guess, without that ready and accessible influence.  Did any of you watch him, and did it change your outlook on things of this nature?

Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?

What I liked about his show was that he let the audience participate, and they tended to ask questions or raise issues that probably a lot of the viewers were sitting and thinking.  Oprah came out of this same genre', sort of took up where Phil left off.

I credit that program with making me understand that not everyone had the same sort of background, or the same sort of preferences, needs, desires in life.  Most everyone I knew up to then was pretty much like me, with similar religion, cultural influences, typical sixties middle class mindset.  It was very enlightening.

No support for it here!!  Really am sick of them pushing their agenda as well.
