Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?
I too watched Donohue, can't say that he presented me with anything that rocked my world though
Liked Maury way back when before he went dumpster diving all the time.
Also liked Dr Phil McGraw when he first started. Thought he was pretty much common sense. Lost me completely though the day he told a grieving woman she was keeping her child from being happy in the after life by not letting go of her grief. Lost all respect for the man that day.
Today these boards help keep me grounded in reality. I had forgotten that there are so many people out there with really goofy ideas and prejudices and down right hate in their hearts. Kind of scary.
Justice Roberts needed to look at this board to see just how scary and unchanged this country really is. We really do need laws to make people do the right thing. By what they say there are those that post on these boards that would throw us back 100 years if they could.

Re: Ruby ?
NewAgJudge think you are wrong there. I think for many gay activists it is about permission. I think for some, part of their agenda is to try and make everybody say their life style is OK no matter what your own personal beliefs are. Many many people truely believe homosexuality is wrong and it isn't right to try and make anybody that believes it is wrong say that it isn't.
I myself believe it is wrong in my God's eyes. But I will answer to God only for my own sins not anybody else's. With an honest heart I can say I think it is wrong to deny people in a committed relationship the same civil rights under our government that I have. For those purposes there is no difference between their "marriage" and my "marriage". But I cannot approve of their life style. But as I said they will answer to God for that and I cannot say how God will judge them. God was much clearer on other "sins".

Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?
Maybe you feel your faith has already covered that subject fully for you...the one I was reared with did not give me such certainty. I have been seeking answers ever since. I do know that our daughter would not want us to serve a life sentence of sadness over her. She was our funny kid...the one that just cracked me up with the driest remark.
Maybe you has a more worldly outlook than I did in the seventies -eighties. The South was very conservative then. I think I have come a long way, baby, from what might have been expected, given the turmoil around our childhoods here. I still will credit Phil Donahue a lot for that development in me.
Maury is just another Jerry Springer to me now. He used to know better and do better. Money will make you do strange things....
I must mss the majority of the prejudice you see on this site's boards. The Farm Business board gets a little sexist every so often, but that is only one or two guys. I do not see it on this women's page at all...do you?

Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?
No I do not find the ladies that post here scary. Although I believe I've had a much different life experience than many.
But some of the men on the other forums scare the bejessus out of me. I really had no idea there was still such hatred and prejudice out there. I simply do not run into it in the people around where we live.

No, we dont care what your personal beliefs are until and unless they prevent equality under our constitution. Many many people truely believe homosexuality is wrong and it isn't right to try and make anybody that believes it is wrong say that it isn't. Homosexuality is VERY WRONG, unless of course one is gay, then its all good.
I myself believe it is wrong in my God's eyes. No problem. Thats why we live in America. But I will answer to God only for my own sins not anybody else's. For those purposes there is no difference between their "marriage" and my "marriage". But I cannot approve of their life style. No need for your approval unless your approval gets in the way of those who do approve. But as I said they will answer to God for that and I cannot say how God will judge them. God was much clearer on other "sins". True enough, the 11th commandment isnt about the gays; apparently not a biggie. 🙂

Of course he did. He has to keep up with the fear to keep the $$ flowing.

Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?
As for the decision in California, I strongly disagree with it. Basically the Supreme Court made a non-decision, claiming that individual people, or a group of people, cannot argue the constitutionality of a ballot initiative, NO becasue they had to show how they were harmed in any way possible. They could not, becasue that is ridiculous. that only the 'government' can make that argument in front of the court. I disagree with that, because it leaves open the door for a corrupt government to ignore any ballot inititive it disagrees with, simply by refusing to argue the case in court. * What ? The day I can vote on YOUR civil rights ( marriage ) is the day I will allow you to vote on mine.

Re: Supremes on same sex marriage?
For our time and place, we try to be as openminded as anyone I know. Moving to Carolina from Virginia 20 years ago reminded us pf our childhood years....things were that backwards socially. I tend to bristle up when people talk about Southerners being prejudiced, like no one anywhere else is. Paula Deen got crucified this week, for basically being honest about past prejudices...not present ones.
