Warm fantasy

Okay, here's a fun topic for you girls who are freezing your fannies off right now:  What is your warm weather fantasy that you think of on these deep freeze days?

Yesterday, while out doing my trip to the doctor and then a day in the city, I sat in the sun and made a couple of calls from my car.  It's been a truly gray, overcast winter here in NC, and although I know our temtps do not nearly approach what you folks suffer through, it's been a cold one for us, too.  The sun finally really broke through yesterday morning...all I had to do was find a spot out of the wind and soak up the rays.

It reminded me of sheltering on the sunny south side of a concrete block barn when I was a child playing in the barnyard.  I remember that wonderful discovery...that it could be positively balmy on even the coldest day if you broke the wind and caught the sun's power.  When I felt that familiar sensation yesterday, it took me back nearly fifty years, to a hillside that doesn't even exist anymore.

I am looking forward to stretching out in the hammock on my screened-in porch, shady trees whispering overhead.  Late afternoon sunshine is filtering through, and I am reading a great book, with some old-timey music playing on the stereo out by the pool.  There's a nice, tall glass of iced tea sweating on the tile table beside me.  Mike will be in for supper in a few minutes, and we'll take a dip and drink a glass of his homemade wine first.

That is my warm weather fantasy this morning, with snow starting to coat out world yet again.  What's yours?

Re: Warm fantasy

We have 8 inches of snow right now, temp is 15. This Saturday it is suppose to be 62. WOW, I just wish it would stay one way or another. I know my northern friends laugh at 8 inches, but here everything is at a stop. I would love to be on the beach at Destin, I love it there. I hope one day to have a home on the beach or maybe own my own island. If I ever do, I will be certain to invite all my farm friends 🙂

Re: Warm fantasy

My summer fantasy is just sitting in the town swimming pool watching my boys splash and play and do cannonballs. It's just Heaven. Or floating down the river with my husband and our friends. Or building sandcastles with the kids at the lake. You get the idea ... anything that involves sun and water, and I'm there!

Speaking of warmth and water, we are continuing a family tradition this weekend. Just when winter seems unbearable, for the past few years we've surprised the kids with a weekend trip to an indoor (obviously!) waterpark. We're taking them out of school tomorrow and heading to Omaha for a waterpark weekend! It's just so nice to be able to pretend for a few days that it's summer.

One of the best parts is that my mother-in-law hasn't seen the kids since my sister-in-law's accident in late December. Gena is still in the hospital in Omaha, so they'll be able to see Grandma this weekend. We haven't decided yet whether we're ready for them to visit their aunt, but we're hoping to talk Grandma into coming over to the waterpark and watching the boys swim.

So, there you have it ... I'm getting my bit of summer this weekend. I hope you can all find a way to get a little summer in your weekend, too! Maybe read a Jimmy Buffet book or listen to some Margaritaville tunes ... or better yet, make some margaritas! 🙂

Re: Warm fantasy

Here's a favorite summer picture to get everyone in the mood for warm weather! This is my view when floating down the river.

Re: Warm fantasy

Here is it below freezing windchills.  I nearly frostbit my eyebrows this morning scraping car windows!  Looking outside I see 14 foot piles of snow all around.  Yes, Saturday it is supposed to be in the upper 30's.  That will be nice but where is the melting snow going to go?  Hopefully not into my garage!

I guess i don't dream of a warm place to go.  I want to go to Michigan to see the big hotel with the rocking chairs on the porch and walk the sand dunes along Lake Michigan.  We didn't get a vacation last year and this is my dream for my husband and I, together without kids.  (If I can bear the trouble my kids would get into when I am gone).  Of course I would love for my children to see the sand dunes too.  Some days, even though it is freezing here and even colder up there...I just want to get away.  No other vacation destinations on my list at this point.

Re: Warm fantasy

Right now I would settle to just be cutting grass, outside by myself in warm sunshine and enjoying the views. But Destin would be great too! I have been cooped up since early December except for trips to phy therapy!

Re: Warm fantasy

Never been to Destin so don't know what I'm missing. Don't really want the hot humid days of summer either. Guess my warm fantasy would be enjoying the nice temperatures outside that spring and fall bring. I could be working with the hogs or scouting crops, but the humidity that summer and the ice that winter brings really wear me down. This winter I am really thankful that we didn't have the storms that we had last year. That must make the current weather a mini-fantasy!

Re: Warm fantasy

Are you going to the Coco Keys Water Resort? I keep seeing ads for it this time of the year. Have heard that the Great Wolf Lodge in KC is nice too. Next week am going to the Women in Ag Conference at Kearney for my vacation. At least it is away from the farm (even though the temperatures are going to be in the 50s)

Re: Warm fantasy

Yes, we're going to Coco Key! I've never been but it's been highly recommended by several friends, so we shall see!

We're about an equal distance from KC or from Omaha, and we went to Great Wolf Lodge a few years ago and had a blast. It is VERY nice, but also VERY expensive. The place in Omaha is about half the price ... so if it's at least half as fun, we'll get our money's worth, LOL.

I went to that Women in Ag conference in Kearney several years ago and really enjoyed it. I had an under-one-year-old, a 2  and a 4-year-old at the time, so just being in a quiet hotel room by myself for a few hours at night was like a mini vacation for me, LOL!
