What a Week!!

Our flight from Seattle got back at 10:30 pm last Saturday and by the time we retrieved the car and drove home it was midnight.  By the, I had been holding my head in my hands for six hours, suffering through a head cold, sinus infection and ear infection while the plane took offand landed four times.  Anyone who has ever experienced that change in cabin pressure with my symptoms knows how excruiatingly painful that can be.

Sunday did virtually nothing.  Sat in chair and stared at suitcases in foyer.  I was so sick I barely moved.  I was able to get a bit of sleep before the alarm on Monday morning beckoned me back to reality.  Late Monday afternoon a heavy shoulder bag of books slipped off my shoulder catching my thumb as it fell.  I felt a twinge but my sinuses were so bad I really didnt feel anything amiss.  I still could not hear in either ear from the flight and my cold had me down.  Got home and froze sweetcorn before dinner.  Even walked Sable.

Three AM Tuesday I wake up in excrutiating pain in my thumb, wrist and arm.  Toughed it out until 6, got up, showered and could barely get dressed.  Had to have Ed help with buttons, snaps and shoe laces.  I went straight to the ER before work.  Sure enough...dislocated thumb and torn ligaments in my left hand.

Got perscriptions for both wrist and sinus stuff and off to work I go in a splint!  Forget any computer work.  After being out a week I had a stack of calls to return and catch-up meetings to attend so it was productive despite my situation.  My first class teaching at the college was that night.  Everything new...classroom, technology, processes, etc.  Somehow I got through it.

And Wednesday and Thursday, work and class again.  I had plans to enjoy Friday at home with Ed gone for the day but it turned out to be a day of errands taking me in three completely different directions.  Computer repair pickup, church auction drop off, banking, TSC, and a stop by my office wore me out.  I sat down with an ice back because my wrist was swelling out of the splint and took a two hour nap before Ed got home.

Yesterday I finally felt up to unpacking, laundry, and putting back the out-of-season clothes we took to Alaska.  Beofre long it was time to leave for the drive to Columbus for DGDs birthday cookout.  It was after 8 before we got home and I crashed again.

This morning it was Mass then our church festival.  As I browsed the Silent Auction I gave a silent prayer of thanks that I was not involved in the festival this year.  I am looking forward to tomorrows family picnic and another day to recover before I get back to things on Tuesday.  I am so glad for the holiday!  Happy Labor Day to all!

Re: What a Week!!

Ouch! Sounds like it would have been a terrific vacation except for the ending. Sorry to hear of your mishaps. Just try to see the best out of the problem, if you can. What you've learned is that not much can get you down, even a dislocated thumb and bad wrist. Maybe it would be worth it to take a Kindle or other computerized reading device next time you think of hauling a big bag of books.
