You just see it coming....
...some days.
Mike pulled out the couple hundred feet of irrigation traveler hose that he cut out this spring, when he had a reel repair and couldn't lift it back on. Irrigation repair man is coming tomorrow, to replace a $1000 or more hydrant the hired man ran over yesterday.
That is going to be a sore subject...because I am going to be taking it out of his pay, but can only take so much or he'll quit and we'll be back to Square One there. Tore all heck out of the underside of the pickup he hit it with...it was a steel one, so $$$$$. At least the truck is still running,. but damn! He was all the way off the farm path, to hit it with that side of the truck.
Anyway, Mike had pulled out the honking long, expensive piece of hose less than an hour ago, because he cannot force the splice on himself. Figured it would be a little labor with the repair man already coming and he's said he will fix that, too, tomorrow.
So, after he dragged it out in the field in front of the office, I reminded him to tell daughter to drive AROUND that field, on her way to ted the next one. He acknowledged me, then a few minutes ago, helped her hitch up her tedder, and forgot to say a word.
I stepped out with Winn, to move my car out of the path, so she could get through without scratching it,. and as soon as we pull up and hop out, she whizzes by, and he's screaming to STOP HER! I lay on the horn, and then realize she's headed straight for the hose. Of course, she turns to look back and doesn't stop.
So, that is thousands of dollars' worth of that screwed up now. I guess we'll call and ask the repairman to bring a second splice, pay double the labor. They are in the field having a good fuss right now. Honestly, it is all his fault...a 2.5-inch hose in grass several inches taller than that, the reel parked a long distance away.
What do you do with people like this?

I know what you mean.. its so obvious that it will happen but no one else sees it so as to prevent it. Ouch on the $$$.

Re: You just see it coming....
I think Murphy decided to visit your place today. Let's hope he stays in NC just not at our friends farms.

It's like a snowball. Just keeps picking up snow, getting bigger. Take a deep breath. Remind yourself things could have been worse.

Re: You just see it coming....
I am probably just as bad right now. My mind is turning to our new schedule, when Winn's school starts, and we are on different days of the week with his other goarents, thus other days in Virginia.
A friend posted on FB yesterday that this hurricane looks like it might swing through us...and calves are due to start showing up the same time! Mike went back early this morning to meet the irrigation repairman. I am here catching up on rest from a bunch of running, too...but, nothing like what you do!
We have a couple hundred big bales he wants to pile and pull covers on before the storm chance. That will take half a day, but you do what you must. Need to bump up my FSA appointment from tomorrow to later today, to free myself up for that fun.
I actually hired our helper to give me some greenhouse hours. Mike is just too bust cleaning up fence, ines, so we can rotate the cows. He has at least complimented my decisions on forages several years ago.
They have not been able to keep up with the warm season bahia, and another quadrant with other warm season segments awaits, with fescue starting to get its act together fir stockpiling on the rest of the farm. Maybe I had a clue...it used to drive me crazy to watch the grazing tenant who didn't understand the grasses. It works!
At least that setup is saving us some money...nothing else is!

Re: You just see it coming....
One morning I had fallen down the stairs...maybe when I broke my butt bone? Needless to say I was upset. i went outside and got in my vehicle and I am sure my husband wouldn't help me with something so I backed up maybe rather hard and ran smack into the post hole digger on the front of the tractor. One of those homemade things with 1/4 inch steel on two sides. I am not a good one for backing up and I tell people that! So much for my bumper and part of my Jeep tailgate. I have also backed into a dumpster that I had never seen in a certain spot before...That was a few days after I had gotten my new to me Edge. Camera or beeper for me from now on!!!
