interesting about Obamacare

Putting off mowing the yard in the heat.  Not my favorite chore and hot doesn't help.

Anyway surfing around on the internet I saw a piece saying under Obamacare insurance companies would be required to provide free birth control to women.

Now I'm long done with birth control.  But I do know that even today our carrier does not cover it.  They cover viagra for men but not birth control.

Wonder how hard the insurance companies and conservatives will fight this little change?

Re: interesting about Obamacare

What do you mean by "free birth control".   Free birth contol pills?  IUD's, sterlizations?    I believe it should be covered  but not Free.   It was covered decades ago.   In fact the vasectomy was covered too.   Everyone should have a deductable.

One of my MAIN problems with  the Obamacare program is:   if everyone gets covered including prevoiusly uninsurable people... how will my premiums NOT keep going up?     And I hate the Preexsisting conditions clauses.   Use to have one due to my thyroid.  Thyroid is no problem anymore.   But,  let's take someone with:   previous back surgery and still has back pain,  High Blood Pressure,  borderline diabetic,  arthrititis,  bad knees, thyroid condition and depression.   What would a person like that cost an insurance company?   Right now uninsurable in most cases.   Can't get on with most big employers because of the back x-ray.   I don't see my premiums dropping.  Do any of you see your premiums dropping if everyone with  "conditions"  now gets health insurance?

Re: interesting about Obamacare

There are plenty of healthy people that are not paying health premiums right now too. Don't know what the ratio to uninsured would be. Too many think, why pay for insurance when I don't need it now.

Re: interesting about Obamacare

I know farmers in this area that don't or didn't carry health insurance.  They just counted on the hospital still having funds to use for the uninsured.  Something every hospital allows for.  Risky business in this area because the Amish tend to use up the hospital budget every year.  The Amish don't buy any kind of insurance just on principle.  They contribute to a community fund which is suppose to take care of anything that happens to any of them.

Re: interesting about Obamacare

A local businessman recently was hit by a car while riding his motorcycle, and had a leg amputated below the knee. Not his fault, other driver's insurance company should pay, but I was shocked and a bit disgusted...if you can afford an expensive toy like a motorcycle, you could have bought insurance instead.

The Amish are essentially going self- insured within their community. Some big companies do the very same thing for their employees.
Hospitals have to treat virtually anyone to a point. I tahink tahat int will be to a lesser and lower extent as budgets tighten.

Let's be honest: Our country cannot afford what it is paying for right now...and cuts ahead will either be negotiated between the tow parties, in a committee, ro across- the- board cuts in all areas will engage.

Does anyone think there is going to be resource availability to add 49 million more people to healthcare coverage? One stated
reason some employers aren't hiring now is holding back to see what Obamacare is going to cost them. We are spiraling down spending, and revenues will continue to drop as fewer and fewer workers are paying into the coffers. Where is all of this money going to come from?!?!

Re: interesting about Obamacare

Kay, I agree. Where is all this money going to  come from? I had not thought about employers not hiring due to this but that makes sense too. I do think Medicare needs some higher co-pays so that doctors will accept more patients. There seems to be wasted money and services when doctors prescribe so many tests and medications so they can get some money from Medicare. Our country's system doesn't seem to be working well now.  They just don't seem to know how to cut spending. Or is their jobs they don't want cut?

Re: interesting about Obamacare

Yes the Amish are like self insured, especially when it comes to things like replacing a barn or house.  But I'm not sure about the medical.  I have heard they let the hospital absorb the costs and don't pay out of their self insured fund.  That is rumor and hearsay by being told a hospital employee told a friend that the Amish pretty much use up the funds the hospital sets aside.

Re: interesting about Obamacare

I truly hope that hospital employee doesn't get caught making such statements.  Any talk of a patient's finances or how their bills are paid is a violation of HIPPA...could cost the hospital huge fines, which I am sure would be ruinous, not to mention civil damages for the patients.

Re: interesting about Obamacare

In just a few hours, spending cuts to a certain extent will be mandated by law.  It is going to be intriguing to see who is appointed to the "Super Congress" budget cutting committee of twelve.

It is making me sick to watch them all congratulating themselves on "working things out" this morning. If my children had squabbled like this, it would be a long, very dull summer, I tell you!

Re: interesting about Obamacare

I agree with you Kay.

I think this is a very scary time.  Perhaps the 2012 prediction is actually true and life as we know it is coming to an end.

I don't know what either party  or faction of party is thinking;  but I don't think whatever the long range plans may actually be is going to be good for the American people and the way we have been envisioning life in the USA
