Re: new toys

Looks like the publishing industry will very soon be no more at least in it's present form.

Re: new toys

Boy do I need to get with it.  I have a flip phone,  no texting,  desktop computer that is 6 years old.... just about made a decision on that one.  No Iphone,  no I Pad, no kindle,  no sat. radio, no GPS, no kindle,  no cable or sat. dish.  Not that I can't afford it.  Just don't really want it.     Wish Dell had a deal.... buy a desk top with everything and get a free________.

Better get the house picked up.  Housecleaner in one hour  and then we are pouring a small pad of concrete.   Fun, Fun, Fun.

Re: new toys

I'm about ready to start looking at computers too.  Mine's also around 6 rs. old & I've had it to be cleaned up & now I'm having trouble with my backup disks working.  If I have to keep taking it in all the time & leaving it that's pretty counterproductive.

Also no sat. dish here and I don't really want one.  I'd never get anything done if I had more to watch.  The GPS came on the van we got, and nothing but a flip phone here either.  This morning I got 3 text messages from sister in law & neice so I guess I'll get to pay extra for them.  I don't get it.  Why does everybody text when you can TALK to someone?  Why have a phone that does such a thing.  Just invent something that only texts.

Grand daughter came today & helped me clean.  I would rather NOT have as I was tired.  But she's trying to earn money for her I pod and for 10 1/2 yrs. old she did pretty darn good.  I didn't put her work down but just guided her to do "this or that".  She went a lot faster than I do but boy, does she like to spray that furniture polish!!!

Re: new toys

Just got a new desktop, but it sits idle because the I can't figure out the connections. I must be a dino. My newest "toy" would be my car, first one from the current century at least. So many gadgets. Gotta be more careful in mud with the brakes and the flimsy skin, so the old car will be definitely running in the snow. No Fire, ipod, ipad, satellite, gps or smartphone here either.

Re: new toys

Did the desktop come with one of those posters...picture directions with no words????? I know the purpose of such guidance is that the pictures are " universal", so no translations are necessary. Still, I am one of those people who like to have both figures and word explanations for assembly. I can get really confused over which symbol means " Ladies' Room", too. Have to be really careful with that one!

Re: new toys

Magazine articles are often consumer comparisons of items being advertised in the ad pages, too...so, even less real content?!?! I guess that as long as I have a birdcage to line and Mike's wood stove to start a quick fire in for breakfast, I will have to hope for someone to kep delivering a real paper here. He hoards then paper from amazon boxes, but they use those inflated plastic bags more oftn than not...lousy starter! I enjoy SF, of course, and have taken Hobby Farms and Hobby Farms Home for s wrap years. Those two have good ideas for gardens, small ruminant.backyard poultry production, etc. Recipe for odd things like liquers using homegrown fruits and soaps with particles of cracked grain for exfoliants...neat stuff to try. I think about how I usd to save every issue of Mother Earth News, and that I have read Newsweek since high school. That one is not much more than a brochure when it arrives in the mailbox now...a ghost of its former self. You have to wonder how many trees are still standing, due to the reduction in print media alone...then, the lack of new houses taking lumber. The only economic value in some woodlands now is in making wood pellets to ship to Europe, to fuel their clean air electrical generation plants. Those pelletizing mills are going up all around us here in VA and NC.

Re: new toys

US is sending wood pellets to Europe? I had not heard of that one. There are lots of trees being cut here to make room for the new interstate. They cut them in the spring to make sure the bats are not nesting in them. Lumber is still expensive but maybe not like as high as before? The storms in the past couple of years should keep the wood industry going with the replacement of houses.

I don't have all the new toys either. We have GPS which is really good when traveling. I think I am going to have to upgrade the satellite service, DH thinks he is missing too many good shows that he is hearing about from friends. I really do not watch much tv so I hate to pay more, you can only watch one show at a time per tv. DH does enjoy tv.

Re: new toys

Or the sign with both genders on it. Never know if it is a door to a coed bathroom or to two single gender ones. To tell you the truth, I haven't even turned it on, but I usually don't have any trouble plugging them together. New different plugs than the previous three.

Re: new toys

I have three grandchildren, tomorrow it is the birthday of the little. I have no ideas what to buy as a gift. I can't choose between a book or some toys. Called my daughter and asked which of them is better. Finally, I chose a toy. Now I have to find a good platform where I can buy it. I remember that one of my friends said that on https://www.giftideageek.com/minnie-mouse-toys/ are a lot of interesting toys. I entered the platform and guess what, it is like a fairytale, I liked it a lot. I am sure I will choose the best gift for my grandson.
