slacks for ladies

I know we've discussed styles before here.  I took mom shopping to QC mall today (her favorite) and I truly deserve the patience award.  She absolutely takes the longest to make a decision-mostly not buying-only to say she should have bought such & such.  Anyway, she does have a time getting slacks being short & thickening in the middle as older women do.  She takes a 14 or 12 Petite but likes her pants straight & slim legs.  What a time & nothing pleases her.

Rather a clothes horse actually but I truly tried to help her & she's soooo picky.  She's been shopping every week for pants & jeans for 6 wks. & still has nothing.  Anyone else's mom or self have such problems?  Do you know of a brand to look for?  I specifically wanted to solve this today & I came home exhausted & bagless.

Re: slacks for ladies

I haven't shopped with my mother for clothing since I got married...almost 40 years now! Sounds like she is more about the chase than actually buying anything...would drive me bonkers! I have no patience for shopping for clothes...just don't get the big deal about it.

Re: slacks for ladies

Sounds like she is fighting reality. Straight, slim legs are not usually found in the larger sizes. Maybe she just needs to look at herself naked in the mirror and see why her clothes don't fit like they used to in the past. Knits usually help as long as they are not too form fitting.

Maybe she should consider having them altered. The side seams can be made larger making them fit better.

Re: slacks for ladies

I went to Christopher/banks & picked up a pair I THOUGHT would fit-and they do except she said they're too short in the crotch.  I suspect part of the problem may be that her old ones fit better as they are stretched out even tho she takes excellent care.  I give up.  The only reason I've been trying so hard is to keep her off the road to the mall.

I think she just is addicted to the mall.

Re: slacks for ladies

One way you can figure out whether it is a mall addiction or not is to see -  if she ever either finds or gives up on the slacks - if she is satisfied, or simply moves onto another impossible quest.

I wonder if the shopping and returning thing is her social outlet?  Clerks have to be friendly adbn polite, adn if you notice when she does shop, if she engages in more than the necessary amount of conversation, that may be part of the problem.

Honestly, if she has slacks that fit - and it sounds as though she does - then there is something else motivating her to keep up the hunt.  Does she try to find things that go with what she's already got, or does she buy something different,  and then use it as a rationale to look for matching pieces???

Re: slacks for ladies

Not sure if you have a JC Penney, but I love the Worthington brand. I wear there dress slacks to church, comfortable, and real affordable.

Re: slacks for ladies

Well, she says her old ones are really old & she needs to replace.  And yes, we've tried Worthington.  I have practically brand new pair I offered to her saying she could have & get altered but - - - .

Kay, She always has loved to shop.  Most of the sales clerks who have worked at the womens departments know her by her first name!

Re: slacks for ladies

Okay, that sums it up pretty well.

I would say that she "needs to look for them" more than she "needs to find them."
