stove question

I have a double oven stove for 10 yrs. and have loved it.  But I have had a lot of repairs in the last few years, none of which are terrible.  A couple ingniters on the top burners to replace, '12 ingniter in lower oven, '14 igniter in top oven, and now again the lower oven igniter.  Only a $175 -$200 repair but it is getting to be an old song & dance.  A new stove will be over $1100 depending on what I choose.  The rest of it works but I do like the idea of a 5th burner/griddle in the center and on my stove the knobs are on the side/top so when I place a large canner which overlaps the burner, it crowds the side burner making only small pans OK there.  New stoves have them in front, out of the way.

Hate to spend the money.  Other things I also would like to replace like a new sofa.  Opinions?

Also does anyone have a convection oven?  Worth the money?  Thinking no on that for me but just wondering.

Of course, it's the big oven and I miss it even though it's only been a couple days.

Re: stove question

We have a convection oven now, and my parents had one for many years at the old home farm, and we love them. They cook things a lot more evenly, and faster as well. You can also use lower temperatures and in fact the stove we have automatically lowers the temp. by 25* when using the convection setting. The slightly higher cost of them is well worth imho.

Re: stove question

Just gogked " useful life of a stove", and got tons of hits, including this one: http://blogs.hrblock.com/2013/10/21/the-life-expectancy-of-7-major-appliances/

Looks like 13-15 years for a stove, with electric ones not lasting as long as gas. I didn't get into the improved energy efficiency question. Might help you to do some reading....

Re: stove question

You just have to remember to adjust recipes for the differences.  Convection ovens bake like old woodstove ovens do, with heat from all around the oven, not just the bottom baking element.  REally browns the tops of things nicely.
